Train, Train - California Zephyr

Quantitative:

In this design I focused in the layout and dynamics of the bodies of copy in order to create interest. Another thing I focused in was trying to pack a generous amount of information in the composition and make it easy to comprehend. I wanted it to have structure but at the same time to allow the viewer to be visually engaged with it. The gradient in the background works as a qualitative element that makes the design more attractive without overpowering the rest of the content.

Qualitative:

The design relies a lot in the graphic elements which are simplified representations of one of the scenic highlights of the trip; The Rocky Mountains. With the color scheme I wanted to communicate comfort, serenity and peace. The sharp style of the mountains creates a relationship with contemporary trends and art. I also tried to communicate movement and fun through the layout of the typography and the yellow-ish  wavy line at the center of the poster which also serves as a connection between the end and the start of the trip.

The Line - Final

Keywords: Magic, Wonder and Childhood

My objective was to create a emotional response  from the viewer that inspired them to dream and wonder through my composition. I tried to  depict the iconic characters from the Studio Ghibli's movies to establish points of attention and kept the cartoonish aspect of the subject, but still adding my personality to the design. The timeline is projected through a surreal set of elements such as a wondering flying kite which isn't grounded, this way it implies that it has its own life. In these movies, oftentimes objects in-animate objects come to life and help create the environment that captivates so many fans. The mountain at the bottom right corner, the kite structure; give additional information, regarding the cultural origin of the topic which also helps to create the magic atmosphere that I am aiming for. Subtle gradients and soft glows are the final touch to emphasize the magic aspect of my project.
