hey derick, i think your concepts are pretty solid here, but your rendering still needs work.
i see the apple/africa idea, referring to education in africa. then i remember the band-aid on the pencil and the backpack with the tree sprout.
the pencil is a little crude and the band-aid needs to be more clearly a band-aid. i wonder if it needs to be wrapped at an angle like that. could it be more simple? also, the line weights on the bottom row are more effective. the top ones are too wimpy and thin.
on the backpack, did you try different forms of backpack? what about showing shoulder straps? what about one that zips on a semi-circle around the top half? same issue with line weights.
did you test out the pencil/apple idea with anyone? i cannot "not" see the pencil now, but i suspect a person seeing this for the first time would not get it. same with the coin. i get it but it's probably because we discussed it. show those to new people to see what they think.
