Catching up on blogging: ux Here is Sway

Derick and I have been trying to decide on an aesthetic. We have a list of things to accomplish before Monday, including:

-hints (before the event)
-posters (during the event)
-motion graphic (simulation of what's happening inside the cylinder)
-takeaways (to still have an impact after the event)
-experience map
-final presentation

Right now, we're in the process of making the motion graphic in AfterEffects. We're still trying to figure out how to create the illusion of being inside the cylinder without making it too complex (getting into 3D depictions in AfterEffects are difficult to understand/handle). Below you can see our explorations with imagery while still trying to keep with the style of the form.

Interviews

Beau-Gabriel Smith

Beaue works at Seapio technologies

I decided to interview him because he has a relative fresh start in his career as a designer. For this reason I wanted to know roe about his experience in getting a job right out of school and where to look for those.


He told me that when he graduated he I managed to get a job that wasn't necessarily design, but he still did it for the experience. For the potential it provided and the more he worked there then then the more it became as a design job. Still it wasn't his Ideal place, so it was like a stepping stone for him to move onto his next job.

Nowe he works at Saepio technologies, where his job is to create templates for websites that facilitates the functions, and interactions of his clients with their clients. Some of the accounts that the company handles include Bentley, CVS, Mcdonal's and Audi. The last one is a specific case of clients where Beau has worked for.

Right know he feels comfortable and happy where the place he is at. He told me that he really likes the culture in this place. Which is something that they don't tell you to look for when youa re in college. The culture in the workplace can make a huge difference, even if it is the coolest position if the culture is bad that you will still feel like crap. His works is very heavy in regard of workload, but he doesn't feel overwhelmed, because of the culture and the people in his team.

Outside of work he likes to make music with his band and uses this as an outlet for personal work and to keep his creativity ignited. Looking into the future he wants to try to merge his passions in design and music. And to take a position with more responsibility such as manager position.



Santos Arzu Quioto

Arzu was one of the most influential professor in my highschool years. I could confidently say that he  changed the way that I lived my life since I was one of his students and has always been a recipient of my admiration. He is more of a painter, but I decided to interview him because at some point I might want to go back to Honduras and start my own studio. As a well know artist, in Honduras and in many other countries. I came to him with the hopes to get a better understanding on how to succeed as an artist/designer in Honduras.

Since I haven't been very aware of the current state of the visual arts as a mode of communication in Honduras I asked him his opinion. He told me that there is a lack of thoughtful and educated means to market businesses and products in Honduras and the way it applies design. This aspect is very slow moving and it has so many consequences as well as factors that affect for this condition. The way he proposes to fix this is through being selfless, and to try to share the knowledge with others. To make art not with the purpose of recognition but so that other people can be encouraged and inspired to do so because of what we make.

I asked him about the lack of support from the government towards the arts and the people in general and how to overcome that. He told me that its like any other thing that you love and that you do. You work hard to protect it and to make it be the best it can be. Soon enough it would start making an impression in other people. The best way we can deal with the lack of support is to strengthen the art community to promote this movement so that existing artist can collaborate and help each other. This way its mutually beneficial not just for both parties but also to society. When we start making work of quality that tries to develop an awareness in the way our society sees art then our work gains a greater purpose and feels more fulfilling.

Finally I asked him how does his experiences in the exterior (other countries) influence his work. He told me: "I try to take what I learn in those experiences and give it, share it with as many people as I can. Haha I feel like a thief sometimes. Like the Catracho Robin Hood."

Big Picnic: D+M wireframes

So Marie and I want to keep the interaction simple and focus on the aesthetics and the visual appeal of the app and the overall identity of the event. The main idea is to utilize the map as a guide to were the user can travel around the area. The app would work with beacons which would trigger events and/or notifications that would inform the user and invite him/her to explore the activities that are offered in the event as well as teaching them about the works of art in the area.



Our wireframes show the process from the start screen, that invites the user to explore the map in a vertical fashion. Then the user explore the map where they can see icons/symbols that rep[resent the various events and elements that are available in the space.  In the first frame the user clicks on one of the symbols or the beacon triggers a notification – this will let the user know when there is something relevant for them to know near them. Then a window would pop up, this will contain pertinent information about said event and imagery that would contribute to the experience of the user.v
